Vasculitis Care in Blue Ash & Cincinnati
Medically reviewed by Tara J. Adhikari, MD, FACR, board-certified rheumatologist · Last reviewed October 2026
Vasculitis means inflammation of the blood vessels. It can narrow or weaken vessels and reduce blood flow to the organs they supply. There are many types, from giant cell arteritis in older adults to ANCA-associated vasculitis and Behçet's disease. Fast diagnosis and treatment can prevent serious complications.
Types we treat
Giant cell arteritis (temporal arteritis)
ANCA-associated vasculitis, such as granulomatosis with polyangiitis
Behçet's disease
Vasculitis linked to lupus, rheumatoid arthritis or Sjögren's
Small-vessel and skin vasculitis
Symptoms to know
Symptoms depend on which vessels are affected. Common ones include fever, fatigue, weight loss, rash or purple spots on the legs, joint pain, numbness or weakness, sinus problems and blood in the urine.
Urgent: giant cell arteritis. If you are over 50 and have a new headache, scalp tenderness, jaw pain when chewing, or any change in vision, call us or seek care the same day. Prompt treatment can prevent vision loss.
How we diagnose vasculitis
We combine your history and exam with blood and urine tests drawn in our office, including inflammatory markers and ANCA antibodies. We may arrange imaging, such as ultrasound or a CT or PET scan, or a biopsy of the affected tissue, such as the temporal artery.
How we treat vasculitis
Steroids to bring inflammation under control quickly
Immune-calming and biologic medications, including infusions in our on-site infusion suite
Regular labs and visits to watch for relapse and medication side effects
Coordination with eye, kidney, lung and vascular specialists
Common questions
Is vasculitis contagious?
No. It is caused by the immune system, not an infection that can spread.
Can vasculitis come back?
Some types can relapse, so follow-up visits continue after symptoms are under control.
